THE second Haslemere Chamber of Trade Business Awards were presented on Friday evening at a ceremony and dinner at The Georgian House Hotel. President Simon Labrow said the standard of entries was extremely high and the event was a sell-out with 120 attending. Entries were assessed carefully against a published set of criteria by a panel of judges. He said: "Members and guests enjoyed a great evening. Sarah Slade and her team at The Georgian House Hotel did an excellent job as hosts and croupiers for the fun casino. Keith Connors had everyone dancing with his popular disco, and the business awards were received enthusiastically. "The evening was an excellent opportunity to meet up with fellow business people in a relaxed informal atmosphere. The business awards, now in their second year, were hotly contested with a very high standard of entries." The winners were: l Best New Business (sponsored by Grayshott Pottery): Silverblue Tours. Managing director Laura Keene said she was delighted to receive this award. l Customer Service Award (sponsored by Haslemere Travel): Arnolds Garage. Judges visited the establishment anonymously and were very impressed with the high levels of customer service demonstrated. l Greenest Haslemere Company (sponsored by The Car Network): Haslemere Health Foods. The company, based in Wey Hill is run by Dominic Upton. Even the business premises are painted green! l Most Innovative Marketing Campaign (sponsored by The Marketing Forge): J L Nobbs. Julianne Evans and her team at the bookshop, newsagent and stationers, had to think 'outside the box' for the launch of the last Harry Potter book. The shop was transformed into Hogwarts for the midnight launch party. l Business Personality (sponsored by Grayswood Computer Services): Brian Howard. As well as running successful florists, Marley Flowers, with his wife Diana and daughter Melissa; Brian is heavily involved in community events including the revival of the Haslemere Chamber of Trade in 1981. He has been mayor of Haslemere twice, helped establish the Christmas Market and organised the millennium celebrations. l Most Proactive Business in the Community (sponsored by The Sports Locker): Wispers School. Headteacher Henry Beltran and his team are involved in community and charitable projects as well as working with state schools. l St George's Day Window Dressing Competition (sponsored by Lurgashall Winery): Eden Hair and Beauty. Angie Townsend and her team decorated their premises in red and white, wore red and white and even coloured their hair. Angie was presented with a bottle of St George's Day mead.
