BEFORE handing over her chain of office to incoming Farnham Inner Wheel club president Mary King, the outgoing president, Lynda Godfrey, presented three cheques to representatives of three local charities.

Lynda Newman received a cheque for £500 for the Farnborough and District Stroke/Aphasia Group. This was one of president Lynda Godfrey’s chosen charities and the money was raised as a result of a bridge lunch and a ladies lunch.

This group holds monthly meetings, activities and outings for people with partial or total loss of speech as a result of a stroke.

During the Inner Wheel year, members contributed their loose change at their monthly meetings, and the £100 raised was donated to Farnham Assist, a Christian Organisation offering support to older people who have become isolated from friends and neighbours. This cheque was received by Susie Blackwood, a representative of the organisation.

A new venture for Inner Wheel this year was to hold monthly coffee mornings at members’ homes and subsequently, £200 was raised for the Frimley Hospital Stroke/Early Supported Discharge Department.

When stroke patients are discharged, they are visited in their own home and given help and advice to help them make a good recovery. They are able to have this personal service for up to eight weeks.

The cheque was received by manager, Clare Watson and occupational therapist, Georgina Humphrey who had both helped two of the Inner Wheel ladies who had suffered strokes during the past year.
