WOODLEA Primary School's choir took part in a Guiness World Record attempt last Thursday.

Children from the key-stage-two choir became part of the Big Sing - an attempt to break the world record for the biggest simultaneous singalong.

Schools across the country began signing at precisely 2.45pm.

The event was led from The 02 arena, in London, by popstar Des'ree, who sang a specially commissioned version of her hit Gotta Be.

School deputy headteacher Kate Heffer said: "It's a very hard song to sing so we've been practising for the whole of this half term.

"But everyone sang brilliantly and we're delighted with how we did.

"The whole school turned out to see us sing and I think everyone was pleased to be a part of that.

"There was a great atmosphere about the hall.

"It was a really brilliant experience."

Whitehill's town mayor and mayoress Bill and Chris Wain were the independent adjudicators at the event.

They were at the school to make sure that all the pupils were singing at the right time.

Whether the world record attempt has been successful is yet to be announced, but the previous record held saw 293,578 schoolchildren take part in the Big Sing.

The current estimate for the 2008 Big Sing shows that more than 601,000 children took part.
