FORMER Herald reporter turned South Farnham Junior School teacher Chris Joint sacrificed his iconic facial hair, dubbed ‘The Beard’ by students, for the Comic Relief cause last Friday.
Chris enlisted the help of barber Carl Atkinson, of Houd Vast based at Ministry of Ink in Downing Street, and his cut-throat razor – with the children paying to watch the charity trim at lunchtime.
The school later confirmed that Chris’ brave shave helped raise more than £500 for Comic Relief.
Chris said: “I’m just about used to the new look now. I’ve stopped shocking myself each time I catch my own reflection!
“I’ve never had anybody shave me before so to have that experience in front of hundreds of children all chanting my name was absolutely bizarre.
“My face feels colder than it used to but I quite like the new look.”
The school held a variety of events and raised £2,000 for the charity.
