With closure of Alton’s Palace Cinema imminent, owner Raj Jeyasingam has found a venue to keep the big screen experience alive in the town.

Kelly Warren and Rob Strange, owners of the Sugarloaf café in Anstey Park, want to show family movies once or twice a month in their 60-seater auditorium.

Rob said: “There will also be plenty of opportunities to hire the venue for birthday parties and special anniversaries where people could have exclusive film screenings. People could even bring their own films.”

Raj said: “Albeit it will be older films, but because the café is privately owned there will be a lot of heart and soul put into this. I feel great to leave my customers with a chance to enjoy the cinema-going experience.”

The first showing will be on Friday, October 28, at 6.30pm.
