Climate activists from across Waverley and East Hampshire will head to London this weekend to take part in Extinction Rebellion’s ‘The Big One’.

The protest event will take place over four days from tomorrow (Friday) to Monday, with a coach arranged to take campaigners from pick-ups in Farnham and Godalming.

On Friday, the Dirty Water campaign will continue with a demonstration outside the Department of Farming and Rural Affairs to stop the dumping of untreated wastewater and sewage in rivers and coastal waters.

On Saturday, there will be an enormous family-friendly Earth Day march for biodiversity, followed by a ‘Running Out of Time!’ day of action on Sunday coexisting with the London Marathon.

Monday marks the return of parliament and the delivery of Extinction Rebellion demands.

The four-day action will be family-friendly, with a diverse programme of speakers, performers, workshops and activities for all ages. People can attend on their own, with friends and family, or with a local community group.

Clive Teague, of Extinction Rebellion Waverley and Borders, said: “Every single person makes the movement more powerful and harder for the government to ignore.”

On Saturday, April 22, a coach to London will depart from Farnham Sports Centre and Denningberg Centre in Godalming. Return cost £15.
