FARNHAM Help for Refugees in UK and Overseas is appealing for donations ahead of its 12th collection next Friday (January 25).
The collection will take place at St George’s Church, Badshot Lea, between 3pm and 7pm.
Ahead of the collection, the team spoke to the aid agencies and groups to find out which items are most needed in the coming weeks and months, as shown in the poster (right).
As there is no storage space, items are sorted and shipped to the agencies within 24 hours of collection.
Unfortunately, this means out-of-season items cannot be stored or saved.
Farnham Help for Refugees cannot accept any XL or XXL-sized items or shoes.
Some of the much-needed items include:
* New pants and socks
* Medical equipment, such as wheelchairs, crutches, walking frames and neck braces
* New, unopened painkillers
* New toothbrushes and toothpastes.
There are estimated to be around 500 pregnant women in camp Moria, Lesvos, and so donations of maternity wear will also be accepted.
Once again, strong cardboard boxes that can be closed or have lids are needed. All sizes are welcome, but the most useful are removal boxes.
It costs Farnham Help for Refugees £5 to send a box of aid to refugees. For anybody wishing to donate to fund the delivery of aid, there will be a collection bucket on the day.
The group is also looking for volunteers to help sort and pack donations between 1.30pm and 9pm on Friday, January 25, and then from 9am to 11am on Saturday, January 26.
