Farnham will step into the festive spotlight on Saturday, November 15, as crowds gather in Gostrey Meadow for the grand unveiling of the town’s brand-new Christmas lights.
From 1pm, Gostrey Meadow will be transformed into a winter wonderland, welcoming families and visitors for an afternoon of free festive entertainment.
The line-up includes performances from local schools, theatre groups, dance companies and bands, along with craft stalls and seasonal food. Children can enjoy face painting, funfair rides and a free visit to Santa’s grotto.
The highlight of the day will come at 4.30pm, when special guests take to the stage to switch on the new lights and mark the official countdown to Christmas. The celebrations will conclude with live music, headlined by Fearlessly Taylor, a Taylor Swift tribute act.
Cllr Kika Mirylees, the town council’s lead member for culture, said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is one of the most magical events in Farnham’s calendar. This year is extra special, as we’ll be revealing our brand-new lights for the very first time.
“For maximum impact, as well as admiring the lights which will festoon Gostrey Meadow, I encourage you to wander into the town centre to see the new display in all its glory.
“I’d like to thank Farnham BID (Make It Farnham) for their contribution to the scheme, which has allowed for some extra features including exciting photo opportunities for visitors.
“Thanks also go to our sponsors, including Laithwaites, principal sponsor for Christmas in Farnham, and Shaw Gibbs, gold sponsor of the switch-on. With their support we’ve created an afternoon packed with activities and entertainment. Please come down and enjoy the event.”
