More than 30 volunteers took part in a community litter pick last week, ahead of this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade.
Across the morning of Saturday, November 8, volunteers collected around 26 bags of rubbish, clearing food packaging, cigarette butts, bottles, cans, broken glass, discarded dog-waste bags and even a drill bit.
Teams spread out across key areas of the town, focusing on the parade route and well-used public spaces. Areas covered included Hickley’s Corner to the station, Dogflud Way and the skate park, Brightwells Yard and several alleyways leading into the town centre.
Councillor Mat Brown, Farnham Town Council lead member for environment, praised the strong turnout and enthusiasm shown by residents of all ages.
He said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to take pride in our town. Everyone rolled up their sleeves, worked hard, and helped make sure the town looked its best for Remembrance Sunday. We’re incredibly grateful to all who took part.”
With Downing Street recently reopened following roadworks, Farnham town councillors and MP Greg Stafford also spent extra time tidying the street.
To round off the morning, volunteers gathered for well-earned tea and cakes.
