A RECOMMENDATION for a new community toilet scheme initiated by The Queens Head in The Borough - which would see additional toilet facilities made available for longer hours, with the council agreeing to pay a small annual fee towards the upkeep was put forward to town councillors in last weeks meeting.
The concept was liked by council members, after seeing its success elsewhere, with people having access to toilet facilities in pubs, restaurants and shops, without the need to make a purchase. Businesses taking part would display a sticker promoting the scheme and would be listed on a map of the town. The scheme could help to improve facilities and increase footfall throughout town.
Stephen Hill, the town council’s lead member for community enhancement, said: “The community enhancement working group generally felt was a very positive way forward in the town – the public toilet will be available in pub hours apposed to the hours that can normally be achieved.”
It was agreed a pilot scheme would be put into practice.
