A FARNHAM company was celebrating this week after securing a prestigious multimillion dollar contract with the US Air Force.

From its offices on the leafy Waverley Lane, the company STASYS won the six million dollar contract to provide a cutting-edge communications system that will change the shape of American technology.

Managing director of STASYS, Julian Ranger, said: "This contract is a great achievement for us. We have worked for a number of the armed forces of European countries, and we will now be backed by the might of the USA."

STASYS secured the contract after its consultants came up with a hi-tech system that allows Air Force units to communicate reliably with each other through their computer and radar networks.

Mr Ranger explained: "In a military operation it is vital for each unit to be aware of the full picture. Our solution makes it possible for the people in control to know exactly what is happening with the units they are commanding, and vice versa."

The contract marks an important achievement for British industry in the unsettled climate of the world today.

"There is a lot of wealth in America but we have proved that Britain is still the best for innovation. It is unusual for the USA to look across the Atlantic for any product, and even more unusual when they are looking for a system that is this important," Mr Ranger commented.

Consultants from the company are currently working on putting together a communications package for the health service.

Mr Ranger said: "The health service project is very important because as with the Air Force system, if it fails, lives could be at risk. We will be looking at setting up system that can provide internal communications within hospitals and communication between hospitals and clinics. It will make it easier for medical staff to keep track of their patients and each other."

News of the contract arrived at the same time as staff heard their company had been granted the Investors In People award.

MP for South West Surrey Virginia Bottomley made a special visit to STASYS last Friday to offer her congratulations.
