BORDON residents will see a 0.08 per cent increase in council tax for the year 2014-15, with band D householders having to find an additional £1.26 per year, or the equivalent of 2p a week.

The new charges, which will come into effect on Tuesday, will see Hampshire County Council taking the lion's share of the council tax at 71.3 per cent; Hampshire Constabulary and Crime Commissioner next with 10.6 per cent; East Hampshire District Council takes 9.4 per cent; Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service 4.2 per cent, and town and parish councils take, on average, 4.5 per cent.

While both the county and district councils have frozen their precepts for 2014-15, the Fire Service has reduced its precept by two per cent, having made £2million savings over the past year. Despite public support for a three per cent increase, Hampshire Const-abulary has been restricted to a 1.99 per cent rise in precept, with the £1m shortfall made up from reserves.

In total, a band D householder in Whitehill will pay £1,470.66 compared to £1,469.40 for 2013-14.

Whitehill Town Council agreed its precept for the coming financial year in December as it prepares for a period of austerity to balance its books.
