ONE of the biggest annual community events in Liphook's parish calendar gets under way on Saturday.

Attracting more than 3,000 visitors each year, organisers of the 113th Liphook Carnival are promising a spectacular evening's entertainment and plenty of fun.

The carnival celebrations start with the children's fancy dress and pumpkin-carving competition at 11am at Liphook Junior School before East Hampshire District Council leader Ferris Cowper crowns the carnival queen at 6.45pm.

The the colourful procession gets under way at 7pm, followed by a bonfire and fireworks at 8.30pm.
