EAST Hampshire District Council leader Ferris Cowper has said that councillors and officers must "think the unthinkable" when planning future finances, suggesting some people could pay more to receive a better service from the council.

The "radical" step Mr Cowper would like to see is more work done into the possibility of providing varying levels of services to East Hampshire residents - as opposed to the current set up where people pay the same regardless of the services they use.

"I'd like to think far more about customer choice, so while you might still pay for a service you might like an enhanced version of the service, or a degraded version of the service," he explained during a presentation at Whitehill and Bordon's Community Forum, last Tuesday.
