A DAMP start did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm shown by Grayshott Primary School pupils and their parents at the Dads’ Football Tournament.

The school PTA’s popular annual event, supported by a number of local businesses – including BMW dealers Barons of Hindhead, Places for People, Sainsbury’s supermarket in the village and estate agents Warren Powell-Richards – raised £1,300 for the school.

As dads sporting sponsored team shirts jostled to be the 2016 tournament champions, their families roared support from the side lines in front of colourful class banners.

In a dramatic grand finale, Brilliant Blues beat Green Goblins 2-0, thanks to two goals by Chris Miles.

The event, which included arts and crafts activities, a bar and barbecue, ended in laughter when Brilliant Blues captain Bertie Berendt, showered attendees with the winning team’s Champagne.

Headteacher Sharon Pritchard awarded the trophy and medals and thanked CM Sports for providing the referees.

She said: “The atmosphere was wonderful and it is so inspiring to see the tremendous support Grayshott Primary School enjoys from its parents and the local community,

“The funds will help us to continue to provide a stimulating environment and high quality resources for all our pupils.”
