A FARNHAM councillor has told a government inspector of "the breakdown in trust" between Farnham and Waverley Borough Council over the Brightwells development and of the disruption that the scheme will cause to the elderly and infirm.

Speaking at a public inquiry last week, Carole Cockburn went on to suggest that developers Crest Nicholson should be "sacked" if they can't build the scheme in such a way that a path crossing the site can be reopened after 18 months.

Giving evidence on the second day of the hearing into Waverley's plans to extinguish two stretches of the route, she spoke of her frustration about behind the scenes discussions over omitting a new and enhanced Gostrey Centre, which was "crucial to the development getting planning consent".
