WAVERLEY residents can now donate old shoes to be reused or recycled at the borough’s recycling banks.

It comes after Waverley Borough Council forged a new relationship with Soex UK Limited; a company that collects shoes on the council’s behalf and ensures they are put to good use.

Andrew Bolton, Waverley’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “The council does as much as it can to encourage our residents to recycle any items in good condition by donating them to a charity or passing them on to someone else who needs them. This is why we are also introducing a new shoe recycling scheme.

“This partnership with Soex UK Limited not only helps the environment by preventing shoes from being thrown into landfill, but also generates income for the council, as the company pays for the donated shoes.”

Shoes can be donated by leaving them at a shoe bank, found in many of Waverley’s car parks - including Central, Sainsbury’s Water Lane, Upper Hart and Waggon Yard in Farnham.
