A GENEROUS donation to Phyllis Tuckwell has enabled the hospice care charity to buy a new bariatric bed and mattress for its in-patient unit in Farnham.

Bariatric beds are wider than standard beds and are built to safely accommodate larger patients, ensuring that they are comfortable and helping to prevent injuries and bedsores.

When it is not needed for bariatric patients, this bed can accommodate any patient, regardless of their weight and size, and hence it is put to good use within the hospice at all times.

“We are very grateful for the generous donation which enabled us to buy this bariatric bed and mattress,” said Caroline Rogers, ward manager at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“We used to have to rent one when we needed it, which is very expensive, so it is wonderful to have been able to buy one and to be able to save rental money, which we can then spend on other patient equipment.”

Phyllis Tuckwell’s 18-bed in-patient unit provides 24-hour compassionate care for patients who are in their last days in life.
