HAMPSHIRE Constabulary is warning motorists not to drink or drug-drive.

A national month-long enforcement campaign was launched on Monday and operations will be carried out across Hampshire. Hampshire Constabulary roads policing inspector, Peter Hughes, said: "I hope that the number of drink and drug-drivers decreases again this year and that more motorists are taking notice of the dangers surrounding it.

"Still go out and celebrate but don't drink-drive or take drugs and drive. It can ruin not only your life but others too. If you are out drinking alcohol be sensible, be safe and arrange a lift home or appoint a designated driver."

East Hampshire district commander, chief inspector Philip Kedge, added: "It is my aim to ensure that the streets remain safe. Local officers will be targeting and dealing robustly with irresponsible individuals who threaten the lives of others by driving under the influence of drink and drugs.

"Unfortunately, there will be those who ignore this message. In doing so, we will ensure that they are targeted, prosecuted and that their driving licences are revoked. The impact that such a prosecution will have on their family, employment and futures will be their own responsibility."
