A GROUP of gifted students from Farnham Sixth Form College have been awarded an £800 scholarship for their achievements, giving them an incentive for their future.

The scholarship, which provides students with funds towards their future education or career plans, is reserved for students who have achieved seven or more GCSEs at grade A* or A. It is given in two instalments; when they begin their studies at the college and in the second year of their academic programme.

This year scholarships were awarded to 25 students in total, including 16 first-year students and nine second-year students.

First-year student, Harry Easting, is currently studying maths, law, government and politics, and 3D architectural and environmental design, and collected the first instalment of his scholarship which he hopes to put towards buying a Macbook. Harry hopes to progress on to studying aviation at university.

Lewis Hunt, who is also in his first year and studying computer science, maths, physics, and sociology, will be putting his scholarship money towards the purchase of his first car and hopes to continue studying computer science at university.

Catherine Bookham, who is in the second year of studying geography, 3D architectural and environmental design, maths and physics, has applied to continue her studies of architecture at the University of Cambridge and collected the second instalment of her scholarship to use towards transportation costs.

Also in his second year, Edward Hartz is currently studying maths, further maths, physics and chemistry, and has decided to save his scholarship money to begin investing in shares. After he has finished his exams, Edward hopes to study mathematics at university.

As demonstrated by the amount of scholarship students and their aspirational plans for the future, the college’s reputation for outstanding achievement looks set to continue.

Dr Jason Jones, the director of Farnham Sixth Form College, said: “As one of the highest performing sixth form colleges in the area it is a privilege to work with these students, supportively challenging them in their studies and nurturing their potential for academic excellence.

“I would like to congratulate our scholarship students on their exceptional exam results, which are testament to their sheer hard work and commitment to their studies.”
