A TEAM from Eggar’s School returned home victorious having won through to the regional final of the Schools’ Mock Trial competition.

The team of 11 year eight and year nine students competed against five other schools from the Surrey and Hampshire borders in a mock scenario at Guildford Magistrates’ Court.

During the competition they took on the roles of lawyers, magistrates, witnesses, the defendant, court users and legal adviser and were tested on their analytical skills and strength of argument, acting skills, and ability to think on their feet under pressure.

The Eggar’s team performed well in both the prosecution and defence roles, winning the competition and qualifying for the regional heats in Kent.

As part of the day’s experience, on March 11, the students had a tour of the cells, formed an interview panel, and met charity and youth organisers.

The victorious pupils, who are pictured with headteacher Patrick Sullivan and assistant headteacher Emily Cox, are Elliot Crabb, Toby Morris, Nicholas Tate, Archie Stevens, Zac Salczynski, Michael Stokes, Reece Delamont, Ewan McLeod, David Gee, Archie Harrison, Ellie Lamport.
