The team recently held a quiz night at Robert May’s as part of their fundraising drive to raise £25,000 to enable them to travel to Austin to compete in the world finals, with the evening drawing in around £2,000, meaning they are now only a little way off their target.

Katelyn Chelberg, the 15-year-old team manager of Enigma, the reigning F1 in Schools UK champions, said: “We’re expecting a challenge from the world-class competitors and hope we can perform well and finish on the podium.

“We’ve all gained confidence through taking part in F1 in Schools, as well as gaining an understanding of aerodynamics and car engineering.

“The stuff you learn while competing is more than you can learn in a classroom.”

The F1 in Schools World Finals is billed as the pinnacle of F1 in Schools, drawing together the best students from 23 countries to compete for the ultimate prize in this global competition, to be crowned F1 in Schools World Champions.

For all the students taking part, the trip to the USA if more than just about winning too with there also being the chance to experience an F1 race in the flesh as they will be rewarded for their hard work with a trip to Circuit of The Americas for a pit lane walk and the opportunity to attend the US Grand Prix on Sunday, October 23.

Enigma UK’s Katelyn added they will also be trying their hand at a range of other Texas activities. “We are a close-knit team and are looking forward to all that Austin has to offer, from the local cuisine and cultural activities to wearing a cowboy hat and seeing Taylor Swift in concert.”
