HER Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Nigel Atkinson, visited Petersfield this week to present the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade to Morgan Innovation and Technology Ltd.
Morgan IAT, a family-run innovation company based at Petersfield Business Park on Bedford Road, was told in April that it had won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for the second time having last won the award in 2011.
In July, chief executive Nigel Clarke and his wife Jessica travelled to Buckingham Palace and were introduced to the Queen, at a reception for Queen’s Award winners.
And last Thursday, the company welcomed a visit by Her Majesty’s representative in Hampshire as well as esteemed guests including deputy lieutenant of Hampshire Sir James Scott, East Hampshire District Council chairman David Ashcroft, district council leader Ferris Cowper, EHDC and Havant Borough Council chief executive Sandy Hopkins, Petersfield mayor James Deane, and the economic development officer at EHDC, Debbie Vodden.
James Roberts, inventor of mOm baby incubator and global winner of the 2014 James Dyson award for innovation, also attended
Mr Atkinson said: “I am delighted to present this prestigious award on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.
“Such an award should be held in high regard by any recipient as it is for outstanding achievement by a UK business.”
Before the presentation, the company’s founder and research director, Howard Clarke, took attendees on a tour of the business. Guests viewed some of the latest leading-edge products in development such as a brand new anti-snoring device and mOm, a collapsible, electronically controlled baby incubator.
Morgan IAT took the opportunity to thank staff, clients and partner organisations for their support over the last five years, at a special celebratory reception in a marquee at their business premises.
Mr Clarke added: “It’s been a fantastic day and an opportunity to share what is a very special occasion for the Morgan family, with everybody who has made this possible.”
Morgan IAT now employs 40 staff, compared to 17 in 2010, and runs successful graduate, apprenticeship and intern schemes. Its Salurate test for pre-eclampsia also won the Healthcare Technologies category at the 2015 IET Innovation Awards.
