Vic Cracknell is bringing free entry live music to The Wheatsheaf in Farnham each Sunday afternoon from October 5 between 3pm and 5pm.

He said: "This upcoming Sunday will be an afternoon of quality swinging jazz with the Vic's Jazz Friends Quartet, and also a jam where visiting jazz musicians and singers are welcome to pop by and join in for a few songs.

“I will be singing with a top house band. Playing piano will be Andy Sturmey, who has worked with Diana Ross, George Michael, Chuck Berry, Shirley Bassey, Barry Manilow, Elton John and many others.

“Joe Yeadon, who is on double bass, also leads his own Rhythm and Groove Big Band who some may have seen at Haslemere's VE Day celebrations a few months back. On drums is Robin Lowrey, known locally for playing in Farnham Big Band among others.

“Music will include well known Great American Songbook tunes associated with Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Michael Bublé and many more.

“It’s for those of you who are missing the lovely atmosphere of the Sunday afternoon live music on Gostrey Meadow in Farnham in the summer months.”

Sunday lunches will be available from midday to 5pm.

On October 12 The Wheatsheaf will welcome renowned performer James Deane, playing an acoustic selection of songs by the likes of Stereophonics, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Foo Fighters and many more.

And on October 26 the Sarah Jane Eveleigh Quartet will be playing a swinging selection of jazz standards.

Vic said: “I do hope music fans will come and support this weekly Sunday afternoon live music at The Wheatsheaf.

“The Wheatsheaf also has other live music - an open mic each Wednesday night - and a monthly quiz night.”

The Vic Cracknell Swing Band will return to Alton Assembly Rooms on October 31 from 7pm to 11pm for another charity Hallowe’en Hop dance, an event which was a success last year and is perfect for dancing or toe-tapping. For tickets call Amber on 07500 859199.

Vic said: "We are fortunate to have lots of live music in Farnham and the surrounding areas. It can only happen with support from music fans.

“Other live music happening includes Birdies at Farnham Park Golf Club, who continue to support live music each Friday as well as open mic each Thursday.

“The long-running Maltings lunchtime jazz continues each last Thursday of the month from 1pm to 2pm at Farnham Maltings. House band is David Kirby on piano, Alex Forsyth on saxophone and Marianne Windham on double bass. There is always a top quality musical guest, with a variety of jazz on offer.

“The ever popular Jazz At The Ivy, hosted by Sandra Lambert, takes place each month at the Bush Hotel in Farnham, with quality guest performers.

“And one of the best local, independently run, live music venues to open in the last few years is the award winning Login Lounge in Camberley. There is live music most nights of the week and Sunday brunch jazz afternoons. It’s well worth a visit.”
