A SPECIALIST herd of therapy horses being evicted from Northbrook Estate need a new home.
Caspian Assisted Therapy have been given until February 10 to move 43 horses from land which could end up hosting 800 new homes.
Naomi Thomas owns Caspian Assisted Therapy and was issued the eviction notice just before Christmas after falling behind on rent.
She claims frequent and disruptive surveys on the land meant she could not provide therapy for much of last year. As many of these surveys were “unannounced”, they had a huge impact on the service, she said.
While she is “happy to move”, the new location she has found is “subject to a boundary dispute” which is “likely to take months to resolve”.
Ms Thomas is therefore urgently seeking a temporary home for the horses which are instrumental in the treatment of people with mental health issues.
Although she said the dispute is “unreasonable”, her biggest concern is ensuring the therapy can continue.
Another complication is that many of the mares are pregnant and set to give birth in April.
A spokesman for Nicolas James Group told the Herald the order was issued “due to a prolonged period of non-payment of rent”.
“We have been trying to reach a resolution for some time, however following substantial unpaid rent, we have been regrettably left with no option,” the spokesman added.
