HUNDREDS of people paid a visit to Farnham Fire Station for their annual open day.
The event was full of activities for all the family, with early indications showing more than £800 was raised for the Firefighters Charity on September 28.
Despite some stalls dropping out because of illnesses the day before the event, replacements were found thanks to an online appeal and the day was described as “very successful” by Drew D-Auriol, crew commander at Farnham Fire Station.
A stall for Surrey Police was part of the line-up, offering information and talks to visitors.
Surrey Heath also gave a talk on the surrounding heathland and fire safety in the area, following a spike in wildfires on heathlands – jumping from 79 fires in 2018 to 96 this year.
Children were kept entertained with the face painting, a bouncy castle and a play area – plus the chance to witness a road traffic collision demonstration and a fire in the kitchen display.
Drew added: “It was a very good community day – great to get everyone involved and give some talks on fire safety.”
