A SLIMMING world group has donned their pink clothing and indulged in some delicious treats, all in a bid to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.

The group, led by Christina Yau at St Thomas-on-the-Bourne Church on Frensham Road, banded together to raise funds, with sweepstake games and special treats for a donation on Friday, October 25.

With the church’s meeting room made as pink as possible, more than 100 members of the group joined together to celebrate their fundraising success.

Tina Nicholls, Rowledge, joined the Slimming World group two years ago, following a diagnosis with breast cancer.

She said: “I came in with Christina, and I help her set up every week. Cancer is a very lonely place, but the love and support I have been given with this group really helps.”

Tina raised £230 for Cancer Research UK earlier this year, taking part in a ‘50 miles in a month’ challenge, completing “two or three miles a day” at Alice Holt Forest.

Jo Singleton, Churt, was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2017, six months after joining the group.

After an operation of six months of chemotheraphy, she rejoined the group, and highlighted the importance of celebrations like this.

She said: “Having gone through that, any time there is a celebration of a birthday, or out with friends, you celebrate just that little bit more. It just makes you realise what life is.”

Over the Friday morning, 115 members of the Slimming World group, plus an extra 20 non-members who visited for the event, raised a whopping £318.38 for Breast Cancer Now.
