FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at the Jade Garden fish and chip shop in The Street, Wrecclesham, on Friday evening.

The fire broke out shortly before 5.30pm and forced the closure of The Street between School Hill and Beales Lane until around 7pm.

Staff of the chippie and residents of the flats above were evacuated while firefighters brought the fire under control.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze, which was extinguished with minimal damage to the building.
