THE rain stopped just in time for a spectacular display of fireworks at Farnham Park on Saturday night, raising more than £30,000 for charity.
A near-record attendance of around 5,000 people turned out for this year’s show, which again kicked off with a torchlit procession from Central car park.
Once at the park, people were greeted by a surprise performance by the Harry Baker Trio ahead of the lighting of the bonfire and a 25-minute firework display.
Lee Bailey, of the event organisers Farnham Round Table, said: “The evening was a huge success with near record attendances. The addition of the stage with proper stage sound was very well received and the Harry Baker Trio live band a very welcome surprise to the crowd.
“An estimated £33,000 was raised for local charities but none of this would have been possible without the support of all the volunteers.
“The weather forecast was in our favour, even though the day started off wet and windy. I placed all my belief in the forecast which delivered a perfect evening for fireworks.”
Lee gave particular thanks to the 41 Club, Tangent, Tim McCarthy, Bourne Blades, Farnham Scouts, Farnham Furnishings, Katy Poulsom of Poulsom plant hire, The Herald, schools volunteer marshals, Surrey Police, Farnham Fire Brigade, Farnborough District motor club and “all the other volunteers who made the evening possible”.
