WARNINGS that the site of a proposed 140-home development in Badshot Lea is prone to flooding were realised over the bank holiday weekend. More than 200 people have objected to Bewley Homes' planned development in Lower Weybourne Lane, many on the grounds of flooding. Just weeks before the application is due to be determined by Waverley Borough Council, heavy rain on Monday again left the road opposite the proposed site impassable to traffic. Prior to the recent flooding, the Environment Agency raised no objection to the proposal on the grounds that the vast majority of the site is in 'flood zone one', defined as having a 'low probability' of flooding. And Bewley Homes' flood risk assessment states the development will not increase the existing flood risk to the site, while a "sustainable drainage system" will tackle flood events up to and including a 'one-in-100-year' storm event.
