A FULL-TIME post office with daily opening will be restored to Fernhurst in the New Year.

The branch is set to open at 1pm on January 2 with a new postmaster at its previous location at Crossfield in Vann Road.

Following the closure of the retail unit that previously hosted the branch in January 2019, the village has been served by a mobile post office service, which parks up at the village hall on Mondays and Thursdays from 8.30am to 11.30am.

All that will change in the New Year, when residents will also be offered extended opening hours, including Sundays from 9am to 2pm.

The re-opening was originally scheduled for Friday, December 6.

Parish council chairman Heather Bicknell said: “It’s such a shame the Post Office are taking so long to get their ducks in a row.

“I think the people of Fernhurst will be disappointed to learn that the new Post Office is not due to open until after the Christmas period.”
