UP to around 3,000 people made their way to the 39th Rowledge Village Fayre on May 28 to enjoy rides, stalls, activities and games, while making the most of a warm, sunny day.

Rowledge C of E Primary School opened the event as always with a maypole display, which was enjoyed by both adults and children alike.

There were plenty of activities for all ages, including roundabouts for younger children and a climbing wall, bouncy castle, total wipeout and archery for older children.

Other great attractions were the dog show and fun sports, while musical performances from Farnham Town Band and two young groups from Weydon kept visitors entertained.

There was a variety of food and drink on offer, including a tea tent and Pimms tent, with plenty of space to sit and tuck into burgers, picnics, cream teas and, of course, ice cream.

Stalls were run by charities and included boozy tombola, plants, cakes, hoopla, jams and marmalades, a pound stall and many others.

Car parking for the fayre was on a nearby field, kindly lent for the afternoon by Ian Carter - one of the first co-chairs of the committee when the fayre started 39 years ago.

The fayre is run by a small committee whose aim is for everyone to have a good time, to allow charities to raise funds and to run their own stalls so they have enough money to run next year’s event. Any spare money is donated to local groups, such as Scouts and playgroups.

Volunteers also help make the fayre a success, by assisting with setting up and taking down, flipping burgers, making cakes, running activities, litter picking, announcing and a number of other tasks.

Helen Davies, current chairperson, said: “Without them the fayre would not run. We are grateful to them and to everyone who comes to the fayre who make this such a special day.”
