ODIHAM has hosted its annual village fete, with hundreds flocking to enjoy the festivities.
Hordes of people made their way to Hatchwood House in Odiham to enjoy the spectacular village fete, organised by All Saints Church.
The afternoon was labelled “the very epitome of a traditional fete”, with attractions on offer to those in attendance including all the usual stalls and games, as well as a dancing display from local school children and a dog show.
For adults there was Pimms and ale on tap, while the children were treated to plenty of cake, ice cream and barbecue food available throughout the afternoon.
Although brilliantly organised by All Saints Church, many of the community’s local organisations pitched in to add to the occasion, including local schools, the cricket club, and air cadets.
Being home to RAF Odiham, the fete was visited by a Chinook which landed in the adjacent field. However it was not the only military vehicle to visit the area during the fete, with attendees also treated to the sound and spectacle of a special Hurricane fly past, courtesy of the RAF Battle of Britain flight.
Jon Hale, chairman of Odiham Parish Council said: “All Saints do an amazing job each and every year with our village fete. This year was an incredible success seeing huge numbers attend to create an incredible community atmosphere.
“We are also very fortunate that the RAF makes such an effort to support these occasions and add a special touch to our village events. The community are very proud to be home to the UK’s Chinook force and love seeing them make an appearance.
“However, this year we were especially lucky that a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain memorial flight was using RAF Odiham as a navigation point on the way to Fairford Airshow.
“RAF Odiham made a request for a brief diversion to give the village fete a special fly past, which we were grateful the pilot was able to accommodate within his flight plan.”
Odiham’s next event is the hugely popular annual fire show on August 6-7.
