A NEW fund has been launched to support the historic church buildings of Frensham and Dockenfield.

Supporters made their way to Mill House for the launch event last month, where they enjoyed a performance from mezzo-soprano opera singer Hannah Poulsom, accompanied by church organist Mike Smith on the piano.

They also heard insights into the majestic church buildings and why support is needed from of all those who feel an affinity towards them.

The Friends of Frensham Churches (FOFC) will be established as a charitable trust with the aim to create a lasting legacy fund to support the ongoing upkeep of the church buildings and contents. Since the launch party, 54 Friends have signed up.

Roger Holmes, FOFC chairman, said: “We are thrilled to have received such a positive response to the launch of Friends of Frensham Churches, however we clearly want and need to add to this.

“These churches are used extensively now, not just on Sundays but throughout the week by the many different community groups.

“Everyone is welcome to join us, and can be assured they will be making a valued contribution to the preservation of these wonderful buildings.”
