THE Farnham Fundraising Group for Marie Curie is hosting a special fundraising concert in May, which promises to be a highly entertaining night with a variety of local singers and musicians.
The event, being staged at the United Reformed Church in South Street, Farnham, will be a magical medley of sounds: jazz ballads, songs from musical theatre, acapella singing and ukuleles.
Helping to host the evening and performing some of their latest numbers, will be the popular Farnham-based ukulele band, Pure Fluke.
Also on the programme is the highly regarded ‘FAOS Musical Theatre Group’ (formerly Farnham Amateur Operatic Society) previewing songs from their next production, ‘9 to 5 The Musical’.
This is an upbeat musical comedy, based on the hit movie that centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, bullying boss. Add to the mix jazz duo Mike and Bill, acapella singing from Sound Company and In Accord, and a rousing finale from the Alresford Ukulele Jam and visitors have all the ingredients for an unforgettable musical experience.
There will be a bar in the church’s Spire Cafe serving wine, tea, coffee, soft drinks and light snacks and a raffle. The show starts at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 6.45pm and tickets are just £5 each.
All proceeds will go to Marie Curie, the charity that offers care and support through terminal illness.
Linda Lawrence, chairman of the Farnham Fundraising Group, said: “We are very grateful to Pure Fluke and all the other acts who have generously agreed to perform for us for free, to help us raise money for this wonderful charity.
“Every £20 raised pays for an hour of nursing time, allowing a Marie Curie nurse to care for someone in their own home, supporting both the patients and their families at a very difficult time.”
