SENIOR students and staff at St Nicholas’ School in Church Crookham raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK when they took part in the Race for Life.
Everyone completed the five-kilometre course around the school’s extensive grounds on June 14, by either running or walking the distance. Some even managed to finish the course in an impressive three-legged fashion!
Many of the participants donned fancy dress and there was music to enhance the festive atmosphere. The competitors all receive medals for their endeavours.
Dr Olwen Wright, the school’s new headmistress, said: “It was a wonderful achievement and the first time that it has ever been done at St Nicholas.
“We are determined to make this an annual event and are sure that it will go from strength to strength.
“I am very proud of everyone who supported and participated and we all wore our medals with pride on Friday!”
The school also raised £276 for Action against Hunger by holding a mufti day.
The organisation was chosen after a former pupil came into school to present a special assembly on the charity with which she is now involved.
* Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a series of women-only events raising money for research into all 200 types of cancer.
