ENTHUSIASTIC groups of more than 100 youngsters got into gear for the Olympics last week.

The 'On Your Marks' holiday club run by St Alban's Church in Hindhead and St John's at Churt, was blessed with some glorious sunshine after a wet few weeks.

Using material provided by Scripture Union, a team of more than 70 volunteers ran the event every morning on a sporting theme.

The different groups, which included the Awesome Archers, Spectacular Sprinters and Fantastic Fencers, enjoyed songs, films, Bible stories, crafts and games and the week finished with a celebratory visit by an Olympic torchbearer and a barbeque for more than 200 people.

Vicar Richard Bodle said: "Holiday clubs have been held here for more than 20 years.

"They show that church isn't boring and that both parishes have vibrant and growing children's work.

"Once again it was a great community event, bringing together people of all ages."
