COUNTY councillor Mark Kemp-Gee has welcomed planned safety measures at the notorious Golden Pot crossroads.
However, he said a “long-term” solution was still needed to address the danger as traffic volume continues to increase.
Since November, 3,785 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for action at the blackspot.
Hampshire County Council said it is now bringing forward planned safety improvements at the junctions of Old Odiham Road and New Odiham Road (B3349).
“I think the Facebook petition has really helped,” Mr Kemp-Gee told the Herald.
He went on to say “a uniform speed limit, consistency of warning signs and better sight lines” would be “an essential move in the right direction”.
“However, my personal view remains that, as traffic usage will inevitably increase over time, a major long-term solution is required,” he added. “I would like to thank local residents, Humbly Grove Oilfield, Shalden Parish Council and Alton councillors for helping me push ahead with this key issue. Together, we will not rest on this one.”
