THE Brightwells Gostrey Centre, a charity which offers activities and services for older people in Farnham, is in urgent need of volunteers.
According to town councillor John Williamson, who attended one of their meetings last month, the centre “needs all the help they can get, they have had staff problems which is causing a bunch of other problems, they have lost two people.
“Losing two people in a small organisation is significant, not just financially but also it’s a burden on the rest of the workers who are doing a cracking job trying to hold it together.
“They are looking at potential schemes to try and raise some money and one idea which I thought was good, was to try and generate some modules within the centre where by they invite businesses to come and experience working, playing and helping the people with dementia.
“We participated in dementia training but actually being with people who are suffering with this illness is far better than just training. I think it could be quite a valuable exercise.”
Volunteers are needed for a new minibus (no special licence needed); as escorts to drivers; to help with activities and in their dinning room during lunchtime hours; to become a trustee; and to help with marketing and publicity.
