THIS year's Party In Grayshott has been given a helping hand by EHDC which agreed to give the event a £750 grant.

The third of this now annual event is taking place on June 22 and organisers are planning a day on a more ambitious scale than in previous years.

Ten hours of entertainment are being arranged which include a carnival procession, live music, street entertainers and a barbecue. It is hoped that up to 5,000 from Grayshott and surrounding towns and villages will be attracted to the event.

In the previous two years the Party In Grayshott has been funded by local residents but this year organisers were hopeful that the community committee would be of financial assistance.

Area co-ordinator Keith Chadwick was recommending to the committee that the event be awarded a £500 grant but district councillor Ferris Cowper (Grayshott) convinced councillors to give the event something extra.

"Grayshott is a village which is beginning to pull together," he said.

"What we have done in the past few years is to re-invent ourselves and gained a real sense of community spirit."

He asked councillors to give the event a £750 grant and agreed that, should any profit be made by the event, that the grant is accounted for to EHDC.

Fellow councillors were generally supportive of Mr Cowper's suggestion but hinted that they may not be as upportive next year.

Anna James (Liphook) said that in the next few years organisers should attempt to fundraise throughout the year to finance the event.

"The organisers of the Liphook Carnival fundraise throughout the year," she said.

"It is up to group organising it to fundraise throughout that year so that it can be paid for."

David Kidd (Whitehill) had similar sentiments but said that he would be happy to support a £750 grant this year.
