A CONTROVERSIAL application to allow Groomes Guest House, in Frith End, to host events in a barn on the site has been dismissed at appeal.

Groomes owner Pete Dale had hoped to change the use of an agricultural barn on his land and said he was "perplexed" when it was turned down by East Hampshire District Council planners in August last year.

He decided to appeal against the decision - an appeal dismissed on July 25, when Government inspector David Harmston said the probable "noise intrusion" the application would bring outweighed the economic benefit of allowing the guest house to host events in the building.
