THE former chairman of Hampshire County Council, Freddie Emery-Wallis, has been found guilty of committing indecent assaults on two paper boys more than 30 years ago.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard this week how Emery-Wallis (74) abused his position as owner of a Portsmouth newsagents to abuse the two youngsters aged 15 and 13.

Earlier this week the jury found him guilty of four charges of indecent assault. As The Herald went to press the jury was still out on the remaining three charges.

Emery-Wallis stepped down as chairman of Hampshire County Council last year to fight the charges.
