Hale Carnival is set to return on July 7, but with a new incentive; it’s going green.

This year, Hale Carnival will be swapping single use beer glasses for ‘commemorative beer cups’ - as pictured right - that can be reused throughout the day for just £1.

Chairman of the Hale Carnival committee, Martyn Winning, said: “By the end of the carnival we produce enough rubbish to fill 16 huge wheelie bins - and we would really like to reduce this.”

The carnival committee’s ‘Go Green’ initiative will firstly be rolled out to just the beer tent.

Plastic glasses left over from the last carnival will be used in other areas, such as the Pimm’s tent.

Committee member Amanda Sergison-Main said: “We are so excited as a committee to really try and help reduce the plastic waste we are all, as a planet, using.”

The carnival event starts at 2pm, with the procession of floats starting at 6pm from Hale School grounds. Fireworks will end the fun filled event at 10pm.

Winning added: “The committee would like to do so much more, however we just do not have enough volunteers over the weekend to make that a reality.”
