DOROTHY Jean Pharo (Jean) celebrated her 100th birthday alongside family and friends at Belford House, Four Marks.

Born on December 17 in Holt Pound, Farnham – one of three siblings – she spent most of her life living in Badshot Lea, in the early years with her parents at Preymead Farm.

During the Second World War she served in the Women’s Land Army, working locally at Secretts Farm – a market garden supplying vegetables to the armed forces – and in 2008 was awarded a medal for her services.

She recalls great camaraderie during the war at the Cricketers pub and how several soldiers were billeted at her parent’s home.

Jean later became involved in the family business before going on to work for Dzus Fasteners, as a machine operative.

She retired to Four Marks in 1997, where she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her late brother, Jack, before moving to Belford House some 18 months ago.

Her pride and joy are her daughter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
