Excited former Alton College students returned to the campus on August 14 to collect their examination results.

Sadia Saeed earned A, B, B grades in A-level biology, chemistry and psychology to secure a place to study pharmacy at the University of Brighton.

She said: “I’m so happy with my results. My time at Alton College has been unforgettable. My lecturers were all so helpful and made the courses fascinating to study. There was also a wide variety of online resources for me to use, making my revision easier and more effective.”

Caleb Birch achieved A*, A*, A, A grades and will study a degree in architecture at the University of Reading.

Caleb said: “My education was constantly enriched by extra-curricular activities such as the trip to CERN and the Alton College Foundation’s scholarship for design and architecture. The focus on independent studying and revision has really helped me to move forward in my learning.”

Fin Bunce, who achieved a distinction in the film and television extended diploma, said: “Working with creative and like-minded individuals has been a real highlight of my time here.

“The college has provided me with so much support throughout my course. I now plan to start an internship in digital marketing before heading to university.”

Oliver Withers-Clark achieved “fantastic” results in English literature, physics and mathematics.

He presented a research poster about the Spitzer telescope to the Institute for Research in Schools Conference earlier this year, an achievement marked by a certificate presented by Ashley Grute, the assistant principal for curriculum.

Oliver said: “Sharing my love for my subjects through outreach programmes like IRIS has really made my time at Alton special.

“Endless support from the teachers has helped me to achieve these grades, and I will now be deepening my knowledge of space by studying physics, astrophysics and cosmology at the University of Portsmouth.”
