RUGBY union Premiership outfit Harlequins brought summer fun to Farnham Rugby Football Club with a jam-packed kids camp.
From August 6 to 8 children aged between six and 14, of various abilities, learnt to play the ‘Harlequins way’.
Camp activities were designed to focus on the values of sportsmanship, enjoyment, respect and team spirit.
There were various sessions across the two days, each aiming to teach the children new skills.
Different workshops focused on specific elements of the sport, including the fundamentals of ball handling, identification and execution of space, tackle techniques, and continuity in attack and defensive organisation.
The camp was run by Quins’ community coach Stevie Warr who explained why Harlequins camps ensure the values of the professional teams are taught at their summer camps.
He told the Herald: “A sport like rugby, you’ve got 15 guys or girls going out there and at the end of the day you win together or you lose together. But the important thing is that you’re there and you all work hard and look out for each other.”
“If you’re winning you’ve got to be humble in victory as well as gracious in defeat and looking at what you can do better next time.”
Harlequins run a range of camps throughout the summer across the country.
One child from each camp who impressed the coaches by demonstrating that they “embody the Quins’ values” will be chosen to go forward to a further draw, with the chance to win a free junior membership to watch the Quins in action at the Stoop.
