A PILOT based at RAF Odiham has been awarded a 'Millie' after being chosen as the Most Outstanding Airman at The Sun Military Awards.

Flight Lieutenant Mike Anderson, a 27 Squadron Chinook helicopter pilot, was honoured after leading an immediate response team mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He and his crew braved heavy machine gun and mortar fire to evacuate six critically injured Afghan children during a Taliban grenade attack.

The flyer received his gong during the fourth annual Sun Military Awards at the Imperial War Museum in London.
