A primary school in Farnham where leaders leave “nothing to chance” is one of Surrey’s best after getting a perfect report from Ofsted inspectors.

Staff and pupils at St Polycarp’s are “feeling ecstatic” after the Catholic primary school was rated “Outstanding’ in all areas following a spring inspection.

The “truly inclusive school” got top marks in all five categories with three inspectors lavishing praise on everything from leadership and management to early years provision in their glowing report.

The report also lauds the school’s 420 pupils for being “keen learners” who “work hard and achieve high standards.”

“This is a truly inclusive school,” states lead inspector, Jude Wilson, in the inspection report released last month.

“The school is a welcoming and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive, both academically and personally.

“Pupils value the kindness and support of staff who care for them very well. They know what is expected of them and their behaviour is exemplary.

“Routines and high expectations are embedded from Reception onwards. In lessons, pupils move seamlessly between different activities and no time is wasted.”

The trio added: “Teachers plan sequences of learning carefully and revisit prior learning, to help pupils remember essential knowledge.

“As a result, pupils achieve highly and their work across the curriculum is of an excellent standard. The simple school rules of ‘ready, respectful, safe’ are applied and followed consistently.

“Classrooms are calm and pupils behave in a sensible way as a result.”

The inspection trio gave the school the outstanding rating in five categories: Quality of education, Behaviour and attitudes, Personal development, Leadership and management, and Early years provision.

In getting the high five, the school also achieved another notable feat in retaining the outstanding judgement from its last inspection a decade before in 2015.

Needless to say everyone at St Polycarp’s is thrilled with headteacher Paula Best congratulating her team and pupils for the achievement in calling the school “simply the best”.

She said: “I am delighted that OfSted inspectors saw for themselves the outstanding learning, community and overall provision offered at St Polycarp’s and the impact this makes to the children who attend our school.”

She added: “Children build confidence, thrive and achieve here, and love their school.”

Inspectors also singled out the “high expectations” embedded at the school – which has pupils from afar as Bordon and Church Crookham in addition to those from the south Farnham area – from Reception onwards.

They noted the “care and respect” that children show each other and the “rich programme of extra-curricular activities” that all pupils can access.

The report states: “The richness of the curriculum as a whole prepares pupils exceptionally well for their next steps in education.

“Leaders at all levels leave nothing to chance in ensuring that pupils receive a high-quality education.

“Rigorous systems identify accurately pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and make sure that these pupils learn successfully.

“The school is very well-led and managed and staff feel valued for their work and appreciate the supportive school culture.”
