WINGS and Wheels airshow will be sponsoring a cow as part of Cow Parade Surrey, the world’s largest public art event brought to the borough by Surrey Hills Enterprises.
The fibreglass cow has been transformed by artist Vikki Gibson into a vibrant colourful design which incorporates aspects of the air and motoring show. Among the iconic images painted on the cow are the RAF Red Arrows, Typhoon, Dunsfold Park 747 and popular cars, trucks and motorbikes.
Fans of the airshow have named the cow “Sally C” and visitors will be able to see her among the herd at the event on August 27 and 28.
Joining Sally C in a special Cow Paddock will be 20 of the Cow Parade’s best heifers.
Alongside the full sized cow, the show has also sponsored a ‘Mini Moo’ on behalf of the Jigsaw Trust. The ‘Mini Moo’, called Betty, has been designed by Vikki and painted with the help of pupils at Jigsaw School for children with an autism spectrum disorder.
The Wings and Wheels cow will be travelling around the county, and can be seen in Woking, Camberley and Guildford throughout July and August. Betty will be popping up with Sally C but when she isn’t on parade she will be on display in the foyer at the Guildford Harbour Hotel.
More than 60 cows will join the parade and a specially designed app is free to download which shows where to find and ‘collect’ each cow.
Those who find the most cows will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Kuoni holiday for two to Mauritius.
Event director Jamie McAllister said: “When we learnt about the Cow Parade we couldn’t resist the challenge of creating a unique piece of art that encompasses all the different elements of Wings & Wheels while raising money for charity.
“Vikki has done a superb job designing ‘Sally C’ and we hope visitors to the show will not only love the cow as much as we do, but enjoy spotting all the different planes and cars.”
In the autumn, the cow will be auctioned to raise money for the Community Foundation for Surrey and the Surrey Hills Trust Fund, to conserve and protect the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Those cows judged to be extra special will be auctioned at a gala dinner at a London location later in the year.
Community Foundation for Surrey’s executive director Wendy Varcoe said: “We are delighted to be a beneficiary of the Wings & Wheels cow. The foundation is an independent charitable trust established to inspire local giving for local need.
“We have already supported over 2,000 local projects by awarding grants to fund local community and voluntary groups who are making a difference to the quality of local community life.
“The Surrey Hills Cow Parade is not only a fantastic community art project but will be helping us raise vital funds to support local communities.”
