TEAMS of brave teachers and students at Farnham Heath End School battled it out in a I’m a Celebrity-inspired Bushtucker Trial event last Friday, eating crunchy critters and other disgusting delicacies to raise money for Children in Need.

Hundreds of students filled the school hall to watch the event as the two teams, led by vice-principal Jack Tavassoly-Marsh and head of year nine Natalie Veale, valiantly managed to consume eight rounds of stomach-churning food combinations.

Amongst the dishes the teams had to force down were doughnuts with anchovies, chocolate-covered Stilton, and rice pudding with corned beef.

All were washed down with tuna milkshake.

The event was the brainchild of the head boy and head girl who organised and hosted it in the school hall on November 16: Children in Need Day.

The school also held a superheroes-themed mufti day for Children in Need which was embraced by many staff and students.

Superhero staples Spiderman, Batman and Robin, Superman, and Wonder Woman were out in force but there were many other interpretations of the theme with police officers, healthcare workers, the army, Father Christmas, a bumblebee, a lady-bird and Albert Einstein.

Students watched a short film at the start of each lesson showing how Children in Need has changed lives.

The school mufti day raised in excess of £800 for Children in Need.

School principal Stuart Maginnis said: “It was great day of fundraising for a really good cause. Students and staff really entered into the spirt.

“The audience loved the Bushtucker Trial event and the participants were all brilliant sports for managing to consume some really gross food!

“Very well done to our student leaders for organising such a fun and memorable event.”

The school’s chairman of governors, Rob Williams, added: “The energy in the hall from the Bushtucker Trial event was electric. It was clear from staff and student feedback that everyone taking part was really recognised and appreciated for their suffering!”
